Voi Varsity, TVET students relieved as MP releases Ksh.64 Million in bursaries

Students in Voi Constituency, Taita Taveta County, have received a much needed boost in school fees financing following the disbursement of bursaries from the office of the area MP, Khamisi Chome and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

According to Khamisi Chome, Ksh.64 Million has been set aside to finance the education sector in Voi which will in turn benefit a total of 9000 students across Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and high schools in the constituency.

“We are committed to ensuring our students get quality education and remain in school without being sent home for school fees, we acknowledge parents’ concerns about the delayed disbursement, but the funds have now been released.” Chome stated during the bursary awarding event.

The MP also assured applicants who are yet to receive their disbursements that the funds will be sent to their respective schools in the coming weeks.

Out of the allocated amount, Ksh.24 million has been designated for university students, aiming to ease financial constraints for those pursuing higher education.

Speaking at the event, Mwagea High School principal Mwachofi Mwagesha lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of timely bursary allocation.

“The bursary will go a long way in easing parents’ financial burdens as many are troubled by school fees payment, this will ensure that students remain in school as parents seek ways to cover the remaining balance.” Mwagesha noted.

He also encouraged parents to put a little effort in raising additional funds to complement the assistance provided by the MP’s office and the CDF bursary program.

The announcement follows concerns raised by school heads regarding delayed capitation disbursement from the national government, which has hindered the daily operations of learning institutions.

Many administrators have struggled to manage school expenses, prompting calls for timely funding to ensure smooth learning activities

The allocation is expected to provide much needed stability to the education sector and support students facing financial hardship, thus easing the mounting financial pressure.
