The entrenchment of virtual learning in education institutions to expand its reach can make it possible for students to enroll in more than one university at a time, experts contemplate.

This way, students can link across universities to enable them even register for courses where they are not registered as students.

“Within the next few years, there will be full interconnectivity between universities, meaning that students can study in one university and graduate in another due to ease in transfer of credits through technology,” Professor Lumala Masibo, Moi University’s Institute of Open and Distance Learning director said.

He added that the university’s management has launched major campaigns to train lecturers on digital skills and technologies, revealing that work was already in progress to establish a dedicated broadband and WiFi for uninterrupted learning.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa stressed the need to improve interconnectivity between universities and other institutions of learning to promote virtual learning.

Ndegwa insists that public and private sector players need to collaborate with communities to build conducive learning environments that empower learners.

“Through public-private partnerships, we continue to invest in spaces such as classrooms and libraries in our communities for effective learning,” he said.

Ndegwa noted that technology has created a new dimension in education to enhance literary skills through the provision of new learning spaces.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic taught Kenyans the importance of leveraging the power of digital technology to enhance education, crediting platforms such as Eneza Education and Zeraki with huge access to content virtually.
