Vihiga County has received 40 laptops from the Stanbic Foundation to strengthen digital skilling, benefiting Keveye, Maseno, Gimomoi and Busaina VTCs through enhanced technology-enabled learning.

The County Government of Vihiga has received 40 laptops from the Stanbic Foundation to boost digital training across the county’s Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). The donation follows an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the county and the foundation to strengthen digital skilling among youth.

The devices, delivered through the Department of Education, will be distributed to Keveye, Maseno, Gimomoi and Busaina VTCs. Their allocation is informed by findings from a recent Training of Trainers (TOT) programme, which revealed significant gaps in access to digital learning tools.

County Executive Committee Member for Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training, Ann Desma, is committed to ensuring proper maintenance of the laptops and maximising their impact on learner outcomes.

The initiative is part of a broader push to enhance digital capacity within VTCs by equipping trainees with market-ready skills. Stanbic Foundation is working to close the digital divide by supporting instructors trained in artificial intelligence to transfer their knowledge to students. The Foundation continues to partner with Microsoft to widen access to digital skills for both trainers and learners.

“Our goal is to ensure young people can access digital learning content and receive meaningful support within the training centres. These laptops will help open up opportunities in the creative and digital economies, and even support young entrepreneurs looking to scale their businesses,” said Stanbic Foundation Head of Programs, Dorine Nalo.

The partnership reinforces commitments outlined in the County Integrated Development Plan (2023–2027), which prioritises strengthening vocational training and integrating technology into learning. It also aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive, equitable and quality education, with a focus on digital literacy and lifelong learning.
