Vihiga Kuppet boss decries delay of letters for promoted teachers

Teachers waiting for their letters of promotion in Vihiga County will have to wait much longer after it emerged that the Teachers Service Commission was keeping the list for successful candidates very secret.

Speaking to Education News in his office Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Vihiga branch Executive Secretary Sabala Inyeni decried the manner in which the letters of promotion are being issued by the TSC headquarters.

“We are asking TSC to release the letters of promotion for teachers who were successful for job group D1 and above,”  stated Sabala.

Sabala confirmed that the only list the county received is for teachers in grade C4 who were promoted last month, who were about 250 teachers.

“We are also aware that a handful of our administrators were moved to Chief Principal. Why is TSC making D1 so special? Why can’t they release those letters at once so that this anxiety among our colleagues comes to an end?” he posed.

According to Sabala, inside sources revealed that most of the teachers waiting for promotions are lined up to take up administrative duties in other counties in the spirit of delocalization.

“As a union, we have no issue with delocalization, because it is a national policy. All we want is letters for those who were successful. There is a lot of anxiety, which is now affecting productivity among our members,” stated Sabala.

He also called on the examination body, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to expedite on the payments for its examiners who participated in marking and facilitating the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

“We want KNEC to maintain the previous trend where payments for examiners would happen concurrently with the release of the KCSE exams. Teachers should not be kept waiting for so long yet the KCSE results are already out. Pay our examiners now,” said Sabala.
