VC calls for patience over outcome of presidential race

By Enock Okong’o

Kisii University VC Prof John Sorana Akama has congratulated the residents of Kisii County maintaining peace during the just ended elections.

He further asked all citizens to be peaceful and patient as they wait for the completion of the tallying of presidential votes by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“We need peace and patience in our lives for anything good to come to fruition.”  he said.

The VC urged University students to be the main ambassadors of peace in their communities because the higher education they have received gives them an upper hand over their peers.

“Education sharpens you to discern more societal value like forgiveness and its midwife called love,” he advised.

The Professor was speaking to anxious youth who thronged in Kisii town as they followed the national vote tallying process on TV screens on Saturday.

On the postponment of the reopening of schools, Akama regretted that it had come but expressed hope that the tallying would not affect the academic calendar.

“The delay will impact on the KCPE and KCSE candidates but let us hope all will go well,” he remarked.

He encouraged the youth to use their mobile phones constructively by researching on important issues like food security, mitigation of the global warming and peace keeping instead of posting baseless information on the social media.

He further encouraged the youth to spend their time by reading constructive literature that will nourish their minds.
