Moi University staff have been urged to adhere to the presidential directive for civil servants to wear Kenyan-made clothes on Fridays and Public holidays.

In a memo dated 22nd September 2022 to deans, directors, chairs of departments and heads of departments, the university Head of Corporate Affairs and Protocol, Ms Patricia Cheramboss called on the heads to remind members of staff to adhere to the directive.

“This is to bring to your attention the Presidential Directive on wearing ‘Buy Kenya, Build Kenya’ attire to work on Fridays,” read a part of the statement.

Cheramboss indicated that the institution shall be rewarding staff who comply fully.

The recommended attire include but are not limited to kitenge, ankara and Rivatex fabrics.

The Presidential Directive was issued in October 2019 where government officials were urged to adhere to the instructions.

This was for achievement of the Big 4 Agenda specifically expansion of the manufacturing pillar by producing goods locally and creating employment.

The directive is being adopted gradually in government institutions with Moi University being the latest to instruct its staff to adhere to it.
