Varsity students told to embrace peace amid demos

By Peter Otuoro

Civil societies in Nakuru County have urged students from various universities in Kenya to embrace peace and concentrate in their studies as political temperature rise in Kenya.

Speaking in Nakuru City, the civil society members told students to leave politics to politicians and instead put more effort into their various courses they are undertaking in universities.

Led by the leaders of One Nation Alliance Peace Movement Felix Anditi, the leaders told university students that their future depends on their performance in education and that they should put most of their energies in their studies instead of involving themselves in the ongoing political demonstrations called by opposition leaders in the country.

“Your parents sacrificed so much to make you stay on campus, concentrate on your studies and leave politics to politicians,” said Anditi.

Anditi who was accompanied by hundreds of youth, urged political leaders to use wisdom and solve their disputes amicably instead of disrupting the country’s peace and avoid calling for chaos.

The civil societies leaders told President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga to sit down and talk as statesmen who mean good for the country, and enable all education activities in the country to proceed well without any tension among teachers, students in various education institutions.

Anditi said politics have damaged many countries in Africa, and that Kenyans should maintain cohesion, peace and stability which is only the only way to develop the country.

The civil societies told the clergy in the country to stop supporting either sides of the political line but remain neutral and pray for the country and peace for the benefit of Kenyans.

He accused a section of religious leaders who are used by the politicians in the government side and opposition side as he added that it is not good for the country.

He also encouraged NGO and international communities to preach peace and save millions of Kenyans who are sitting to watch political differences.

Anditi promised to visit all counties of Kenya to preach peace among women, youth and other groups of citizens.

“We are ready to visit 47 counties of Kenya and meet with youths and women in various parts of Kenya to ensure we preach peace so that we can live like brothers and sisters in our beloved country”, said Anditi.
