Varsity students association mourns mentor who transformed education

Students' Assosiation

Bomachoge Borabu University Students Association (BOUSA) are mourning the late Onderi Ontweka as a great mentor whose gap will take a long time to be filled.

Led by their chairman, Josephat Oganda, they said that Onderi assisted many students from poor families financially to continue with their education.

“He was a selfless man who used his personal resources to bless others,” said the chairman.

The students who visited his Igorera home narrated with great remembrance how Onderi mobilized resources to tarmac Magena -Kiango road to make transportation easy for farmers to transport their produce from the farms to the market.

“He was always in the frontline to boost development when he was not even an elected leader,” said Rachael Ogeto.

Others who sent their condolences to the bereaved family include area MP Obadiah Barongo.

He said that Ontweka was an honesty and transparent man who cherished peace and unity.

“He was my political competitor but after political campaigns, I always consulted him for advice on development matters,” he said.

Barongo wished peace to prevail among the family, friends and all residents during these cold times of mourning.

The late Ontweka Onderi was born in Bombaba Ward of Kisii County 65 years ago.

He joined the civil service at the Kenya Treasury after his university education.

During his tenure in employment, he assisted in boosting education, health, churches and transport network development.

He contested Bomachoge Borabu Parliamentary seat in 2022 National elections but ended in position three after the current MP Obadiah Barongo and former MP Prof. Zadoc Ogutu.

He died on Wednesday in a Nairobi hospital after a short illness.

The late Onderi Ontweka is survived by a widow and grown up children.
