Varsity, lobby partner to provide training, subsidize fees for aviation students

The Association of Kenya – Ethiopia Friends (AKEF), the Ethiopian Aviation University and the Ethiopian Airlines have signed a pact to offer affordable training and apprenticeship to students pursuing aviation courses in the country.

AKEF Chairperson Joe Aketch, who is also former Mayor of Nairobi, while addressing students of aviation in Mang’u High School on June 14, said that expensive aviation courses will henceforth be affordable as a result of the partnership.

“Through the partnership, Kenyan students wishing to study at the Ethiopian Aviation University will get a special package at lower rates,” Aketch said.

At the same time, AKEF Treasurer John Mutahi – former Mayor of Thika – said that the move is aimed at expanding networks with other former mayors globally in areas of partnerships and linkages to boost the sector.

“Students will get industry exposure through partnerships, industrial training, and value added courses through new technology, guest lecturers and workshops conducted by the aerospace industry experts,” Mutahi said.

Similarly, Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) examiner with the Kenya Aviation Authority (KAA) Dickens Magak urged students to take advantage of the collaboration and asked the government to identify aviation schools that should benefit from the initiative.

AKEF is an organization that was formed by former Mayors in the country.
