Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) university lecturer Dr Johnson Magutu has appealed to the government to abolish the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in schools because it is detrimental to learners.

He said that the system is technical, experimental and costly. As well, there’s a lack of enough teachers with relevant knowledge to handle it, rendering it mysterious.

He likened the curriculum implementers to a cow that chewed too much grass making it impossible to swallow successfully.

“How do we expect this system to succeed when even teachers who are its midwives don’t understand it,” wondered he.

He asked parents to boycott taking their children to school unless the government abolishes the system or halts it and take time to collect views from education experts for its proper approach and implementation.

He accused politicians of politising education instead of leaving it to its expert to show the way.

The don cited many problems facing the education sector including being hijacked by politicians who do not provide clear policies to govern it, lack of enough infrastructure and teachers.

He accused politicians and policy makers in the country of exposing the children to experimental education system while they have taken their own children to outside countries to get quality education.

The educator asked teachers, parents and students to join hands and implore the government to stop intimidating them by imposing the Competency Based Curriculum on them.
