The Ministry of Education has given a green light to the final-year students in universities, teachers’ training colleges and vocational schools to resume physical learning from October 5th.
In a statement sent to the press on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education announced that the finalist students in all public universities and colleges are expected to report to their various institutions on October 5th, 2020.
Following the presidential directives issued during the twelfth presidential address on the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education has rolled out phased resumption of learning institutions.
“According to the presidential directives issued during the twelfth presidential address to the nation on the coronavirus pandemic and following broad-based stakeholders’ consultations, the Ministry of Education will commence with the reopening of universities and tertiary institutions with effect from Monday, October 5, 2020,” reads the statement.
Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha, however, allowed the institution’s management to further decide and give directions on resumption of physical learning for students in other academic years.
According to the statement, reopening will only take place once respective institutions observe the set Covid-19 protocols.
The Ministry further clarified that institutions that were previously designated as quarantine centers should be fumigated.
The CS in the statement, however, said that Education officials will continuously monitor and review the level of preparedness concerning the Covid -19 protocols giving a stern warning that institutions that will not comply with the safety rules will be shut.
However, the government has remained non-committal on the reopening of primary and secondary schools.
