Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii Branch has asked parents to provide much needed guidance to their children during this short holiday.
Speaking to Education News, the Branch Executive Secretary Mr. Joseph Abincha claimed that many youth go astray due to lack of parental guidance.
“They might seem physically mature but are yet to develop psychologically thus they need induction from parents,” he claimed.
He asked parents to plan short meetings in churches, community groups and local parties together with their children for family bonding.
“Some teenagers keep to themselves a lot but when you plan a joint activity with them you discover their weaknesses naturally and you can then know how to assist them,” he said.
The Unionist appealed to the Kisii County government to support youth-related programmes so as to nurture them as they grow.
Mr. Abincha said he was ready to join teachers and other interested groups to offer mentorship services.
He appealed to the youth to steer clear of drug abuse and bad company so as not to impair both the states of their health and education.
