US based philanthropist establishes orphan school in Bungoma

Rev Joel Chalders, a US based sponsor, is living the spirit of giving back to the less fortunate. The philanthropist launched an orphanage school in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma county.

Speaking to the press, Chalders said the centre, Mana Academy, was established to give love and hope to orphans and to enable them get free education.

He noted that even bright but needy children from Western region can secure admission at the school.

“The school has brought smiles on the face of orphans. It has already started admitting learners from the community,” he explained, adding further that the school will not only admit learners from Bungoma but also from other parts of Western region.

Chalders stressed that the centre will also act as a guidance and counseling centre for stressed children.

The school’s director Henry Musundi lauded the US based sponsor for his support.

He noted that currently the school has 5 teachers and it is running up to grade three.  It currently supports 100 learners from the neighboring community and plans are underway to increase the number.

“We will partner with Sanandiki Primary School to enroll those who have finished grade three. We also have plans to buy land for expansion,” he said.

The director revealed that the school will also nurture learners’ talents by ensuring they participate in co-curricular activities.
