UoN law students emerge winners at Humanitarian Moot Court Competition in Nigeria

Two students from University of Nairobi (UoN) have emerged the winners of the concluded 2024 Firdaous Integrated Services (FIS) International Humanitarian Law Moot.

The students, Lindsey Asiome and Mercy Kamau clinched Best Overall Team trophy at the FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot as well as bagging the Best Memorial with Lindsey crowned Best Oralist.

Cavendish University Uganda represented by Perl Katondwaki finished the first runners-up in the event that took place in Nigeria at Ahmadu Bello University Moot Court Room and presided over by Ruth Ifeoluwa Bolaji  (Legal Adviser ICRC Nigerian Delegation), Swaleh Hemed  (Moot Problem Author) and  Dr Imam-Muslim Farra’u.

The event saw 17 universities participate in the virtual preliminary rounds, with  eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals held in Nigeria as well as the finals.

The event which is done annually has participating students drawn across different law schools in Africa where they prsent a hypothetical case on International Humanitarian Law before the yet-to-be-established African Court of Justice and Human Rights.

The moot is organized by FIS in partnership with one Faculty/School/College of Law from an African University.

Undergraduate students from all African universities are eligible to compete in the FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot.
