Unoa comprehensive learners have practised their democratic rights by electing their leaders as they held school government elections exercise presided over by IEBC.
The Makueni constituency presiding officer, Nicholus Kalimi, noted that it is one of the best exercise to let the learners practice what is done during the elections.
“It will help them in future, they also practice their democratic rights, how the votes are handled from polling to tallying up to announcing the winners, and we issue them with certificates as well, we teach them that leaders should campaign peacefully and concede defeat if they don’t win among important issues,” Kalimi.

The headteacher, Winfred Sila, noted that the excitement makes young learners understand faster. She added that the school wants them to learn these things from a tender age and grow up with it as a way of changing their mindset and preparing them for the future.
“You see, we are used to choosing by them by appointing their leaders; they do it themselves through ballots. They own and trust those leaders, which reduces the infights between them.
Those elected promised to serve the interests of the fellow learners and work in collaboration with the school administration.
