The Managing Director of M-Pesa Africa and Chair of the KCA University Council Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, has challenged university students to align themselves with evolving technology to drive innovation in addressing society’s pressing challenges.

Speaking during a Public Lecture at the KCA University Ruaraka Campus, Lopokoiyit emphasized that in this rapidly changing landscape, higher education institutions should not only prepare their graduates for current job markets but also equip them with the skills needed for the jobs of the future.

He further stressed that innovation doesn’t always require reinventing the wheel; rather, it entails developing practical solutions to real-world problems.

Additionally, the Director advocated for building upon existing knowledge and solutions while tapping into the expertise of various fields within the university.

” Being innovative does not mean re-inventing the wheel. It simply means developing real-life solutions to real-life problems. When there are existing solutions or knowledge that can address a problem effectively, it’s often smarter to build upon or adapt those solutions rather than starting from square one,” said Lopokoiyit.

He mentioned that this approach allows students to harness collective wisdom and fosters a culture of innovation.

Furthermore, Lopokoiyit highlighted the importance of cultivating critical thinking, creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities as key ingredients for identifying opportunities for innovation.

In response, KCA University’s Vice Chancellor and CEO, Prof. Isaiah Wakindiki, emphasized the institution’s commitment to nurturing graduates who not only seek jobs but also create them.

He noted substantial investments in curriculum revision, technology integration, soft skills development, experiential learning, entrepreneurship, and innovation to ensure that graduates are well-prepared to excel in the ever-changing work environment, both today and in the future.
