University students blame MP for delayed disbursement of bursaries

University students from Bonchari Constituency in Kisii County have blamed their area MP Pavel Oimeke for the delay in disbursement of bursary funds meant to cater for their studies in various institutions.

Led by Isaac Ondari, the students said that majority of them come from poor homes. He urged the NG-CDF to consider their applications.

“We depend on this money in spite of it being a small amount  for our education continuity,” said Ondari.

They blamed the MP for failure to direct his NG-CDF Committee Members to serve the residents fairly.

“These officers are handling the Constituency public office like their kiosks,” commented Johnson Oteri, one of the students.

They argued that their counterparts from South Mugirango received the funds two months ago and wondered what was happening with theirs.

Responding to the grievances, the MP advocated for his NG-CDF Committee Members from the blames saying that they were trying to rearrange the office after they took over from the previous committee.

“My new committee members have just finished planning on how to serve the   residents with priority in the issuance education bursary funds,” he said.

He asked the students to be patient and promised that his officers will start issuing the education bursary application forms soon.

Mr. Oimeke took over the Constituency leadership from the late Oroo Oyioka, who  succumbed to Covi-19 in February 2021.

Oimeke is the former Director General of Energy and Petroleum Regularity Authority (EPRA) whose tenure at the energy regulatory body was marred with graft before resigning to venture into politics.
