A 22-year old University of Nairobi (UoN) student was murdered in her apartment in Uthiru, Kiambu County, raising concerns over the rising number of university students dying in unclear circumstances.
Lucy Ngendo was found lying in a pool of blood by her friend only identified as Matena after she was killed by unknown people.
“We spent some few hours at night with Ngendo in my room before she went to sleep. She had come to borrow a charger but later when I called her it did not go through. I had to call her boyfriend to ask whether he has the key to Lucy’s room, which he gave me. When I opened Ngendo’s door I found her dead,” Matena said.
She said they want justice for her friend for she was a humble girl and asked investigators to quickly unravel the heinous act. Some of Ngendo’s neighbours suspect that the murder must have happened swiftly since they heard only one short scream from the room she occupied.
According to Simon Chege, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detective handling the matter, the girl seemed to have opened the door to someone believed to be close to her.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the killers.
