Police in Kisii County have arrested a third year student from Kisii University for impersonating a private candidate at Kiamagundu Mixed Secondary School.

Confirming the incident, Kisii Central OCPD Peter Kimani told Education News that the student who has since been identified as Angwenyi Brian Nyakeri was arrested while sitting English Paper 1on behalf of Nyamwea James Martin who had registered for the 2021 KCSE as a private candidate and was being hosted at the institution.

He noted that the incident was reported by the exam center invigilators, their supervisor and security officers manning examinations at the institution.

“The impersonator was arrested after he was spotted by the exam officials who were manning exams at the center after which police were called from the Kisii Central Police Station accompanied by the DCI officers who brought him in,” said Kimani.

Kimani added that investigations into the matter are underway and the suspect remains in police custody, waiting to be arraigned in court tomorrow.

He warned other candidates and those who have plans of impersonating others not to try, saying that they are on high alert and anyone found taking part in exam cheating will be arrested and charged in court.

This comes a week after the Kisii County Director of Education, Pius Ngoma urged all the exam officials to remain on high alert to help curb cheating in the ongoing national examinations.
