Until his appointment, Cheruiyot, a professor of corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and strategy, served as the director and centre leader of the Center for Strategic Leadership Development at Moi University.
The installation ceremony, which was held concurrently with the graduation of 3,178 students, was attended by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and PS Higher Education Beatrice Inyangala.

“I wish to congratulate all the graduates and Prof Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot on being appointed the second VC of UoE,” Koskei said.
Since Akenga’s term ended, Prof Wilson Ng’etich, the deputy VC in charge of administration and finance, was serving in the position on an acting capacity.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, who attended the event, congratulated Prof Cheruiyot, pledging to accord the necessary support to deliver and steer the university towards greatness.
The university is one of the main education institutions in the North Rift region and is situated approximately nine kilometres from Eldoret town along the Eldoret-Ziwa road.
