Kenya Union for Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has faulted the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) saying it is not yet mature for implementation.
Led by Migori branch chairman Henry Otunga and Homabay branch executive secretary Stephen Yogo, the union wants the government to first increase the salary remuneration for teachers and put up proper infrastructural development in schools before implementing CBC in junior secondary schools.
Yogo urged the government to ensure that teachers are well trained on CBC before it is implemented in junior secondary schools.
“The program is expensive and most parents and guardians are unable to afford the items required in schools for projects,” said Yogo.
His sentiments were echoed by Otunga who said CBC is noble though not yet mature for implementation.
” The government should stop assuming that all parents understand the syllabus or can always create time and assist their children with homework daily, ” said Otunga.
He added that the ministry should also access the dangers of CBC since too much exposure of learners to the internet will corrupt their minds.
He also expressed concern that due to the limited time in the academic calendar, there won’t be time to train teachers on CBC.
