Alex Dunga, the member of the National Executive Council, under Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has asked teachers to desist from attacking the Kenya Kwanza administration online, saying it will bring a backlash when bargaining terms with the government.
He revealed that the National Security Intelligence Service (NSIS) is gathering postings by teachers on social media with regard to the delayed salary increase as that would hinder the efforts to fight for the teachers` interests.
“Never castigate a leader whom you expect to negotiate for you before the government, you will be sending negative signals and that will affect the whole teaching fraternity,” Dunga said.
He said the problem with low pay slips owned by the teachers would have been solved earlier were it not for a few remarks made by teachers on social media platforms.
During the 44th annual general meeting of Taraji Sacco in Siaya town, Dunga said that as a union they are working tirelessly to ensure that teachers get good salaries sometime soon.
As they had left the clause they had negotiated for a non-monetary CBA with SRC in the year 2022-2026 because of the financial challenges, the country is experiencing at the moment which they proposed for a 60% pat rise across the board.
At the same time, he appealed to Kenyans to shy away from mocking the Junior Secondary School (JSS) policy and instead embraced it at the primary schools.
