Unionist hits out at TSC for working against teachers

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has referred to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) as rogue following its move to have teachers undertake Teachers Professional Development studies at their own expense.

Speaking to parents and other stakeholders at St.Caroli Lwanga Lutaso secondary school in Navakholo sub county during the official handing over of a bus, the union’s executive secretary Harrison Otota   blasted the commission for imposing unnecessary levies on teachers.

“TSC is asking teachers to retrain for 30 years. Where will teachers get the money to pay for their school fees?” Otata posed.

He called on the commission to wake up from its slumber and face reality of how things were on the ground.

‘TSC should be aware that teachers have been trained and they can teach. If they insist on the training, they should foot the bill for the training. There is also the issue of where the training will take place.  Why should we move to those universities when we have public universities in our counties?’ he asked.

He revealed that as a union they will stand ground for the rights of teachers and called on Western leaders present (Lugari MP Ayub Savula and Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe) to intervene.

Wangwe, who is the national assembly chief whip, stated that they will stand with Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba who has presented a petition before the Parliamentary Education Committee against the decision by TSC to have teachers pay for their refresher course training.
