Baringo Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary, Joshua Cheptarus has applauded the government through the Ministry of Education for the decision to domicile Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Primary Schools. Cheptarus also asked the ministry to ensure those schools domiciling JSS are well staffed with sufficient teachers.
Speaking in Baringo County, he said the move has enabled the students to have access to education as majority of them no longer need to walk for longer distances to access education.
“Majority of these institutions have few teachers and students are behind the schedule in terms of covering the syllabus. Hence we are asking the government to provide teachers in these schools to enable the students cover the syllabus in good time,” he added.
At the same time, he praised the government in its efforts to curb insecurity in the region as the area at the moment is among those experiencing insecurity in the country, saying that the move will improve education in the region especially in areas prone with insecurity such as parts of lower Baringo South and Mochongoi.
He asked the teachers and the students to remain alert in that insecurity prone area such that they can run to safety whenever there is an attack. He said the government is going around its work to disarm people with weapons as he pledged that they will support the government in the process of disarmament.
