Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Regional Directors have been directed to combine and submit data on school performance in National Examinations for the last three years in their respective regions immediately after the release of 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, something that has sent school heads into panic mode.
The data will include the performance at Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and KCSE for all public primary and secondary schools respectively.
In a memo dated March 11, 2022 and signed by the acting Staffing Director Antonina Lentoijoni, the Commission has instructed the field officers to submit the data 15 days after the release of 2021 KCSE results.
“You are required to consolidate data from your regions and submit fifteen days after the release of results for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education 2021,” noted Lentoijoni in the memo.
The memo has raised questions as to whether the Commission is set to transfer school heads who are underperforming since the Commission normally collects data for all Heads of Institutions and individual schools’ performance in the National Examination for three consecutive years.
While opening KCSE examination container at Kibra in Nairobi on Wednesday March 23, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha revealed that the 2021 KCPE results will be released on Monday, March 28 or Tuesday, March 29; though there are reports that the exam results would be out this week.
“We have completed marking of the exam. We are now finalising the tallying and verification of the results before they can be certified as ready for release,” said Prof Magoha.
According to data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), 1,225,507 candidates enrolled for the 2021 KCPE examination while about 831,026 candidates across the country are siting for KCSE 2021 examination.
