A Rongo parliamentary aspirant has pledged to prioritize on projects in education if elected in the August general elections in bid to eliminate poverty within the region.

John Zata who is vying for the seat on a United Democratic Alliance party ticket noted that the best strategy to promote the society is through elimination of poverty.

Zata urged leaders to embrace education through scholarships and bursaries without biasness, something he accused the current Member of Parliament of neglecting most children from poor families in distribution of bursaries.

“Every leader has an obligation to ensure all learners within his area of representation and the community is well represented and served without any form of discrimination during service delivery,” said Zata.

He alleged that the current National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office in Rongo has been giving bursaries to only a few students from families that voted or are supporters of the current MP.

The parliamentary hopeful expressed his confidence that he has the capacity and all it takes to clinch the seat as he has shown leadership skills through sports, environmental upgrade and scholarships to vulnerable children from within the constituency.

“I have sponsored a total of 38 learners from different levels of education starting from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to higher learning institutions because I feel obliged to support the needy since I can easily relate to their situation.

“I am who I am because a good Samaritan saw the need to sponsor and support me through education and therefore nothing will stop me from supporting children from poor families to access education, a bridge that will change their future lives for the better,” he added.

He urged locals to understand and elect leaders who have their interests at heart instead of prioritizing parties with which the aspirants are vying on.
