Two people linked to murder of police officer escorting KCSE exams shot dead

Two people linked to the killing of a police officer who was escorting KCSE exam papers in Siaya have have been shot dead in Awinga, Alego Usonga.

Siaya County Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, noting that a rapid response followed a resident’s report of two individuals seen in possession of firearms in Busia.

“Recovered at the scene were two firearms, believed to have been pilfered from police officers during the violent incident that transpired near Mahero Secondary School earlier this week,” he stated.

He also confirmed the apprehension of another suspect who is currently in police custody.

Detectives leading the investigation suggested that the apprehended suspect is potentially among returnees from Somalia who were recruited by the Al Shaabab terror group.

The body of the slain policeman still lies in Siaya County’s referral facility.
