Two more teachers killed in Teso to deepen uncertainty

The late Gabriel Obwana, who is among the teachers murdered most recently in cold blood in Teso, including one last night.

Two more teachers have been killed in Teso after another recent killing, throwing the fraternity into mourning and uncertainty due to the targeted nature of the murders.

The latest casualty is the head teacher of Ong’ariama Primary School in Teso South Sub-county Charles Emoto, who was shot in the chest five times by unknown gunmen at his residence midnight last night.

Charles Emoto, the primary school head who was shot dead last night and robbed of an unknown amount of Chamaa cash.

The thugs also hit him on the head with a blunt object.

KNUT’s Teso Branch Executive Secretary Geoffrey Ekasiba  said the killers made away with unspecified amounts of money, the proceeds of table banking for teachers who had come together in this kind of arrangement.

Ekasiba appealed to teachers who form self-help groups not to keep money in their homes and engage the police to provide them escort while withdrawing huge sums of money from the bank.

“It’s unfortunate that thugs also robbed his neighbour of about Ksh800,000,” he said.

In the other incident, a teacher, Gabriel Obwana, was killed within his compound in Moding in Teso North Sub-county.

KUPPET County Executive Secretary Moffats Okisai said the killers are unknown.

“Police are holding the wife of the deceased to help in investigations over the macabre killing; we need justice to be unearthed,” he said, adding: “We need a comprehensive investigation into Obwana’s untimely death.”

Okisai said KUPPET lost another member Felix Kosgei from Funyula earlier, and yet the government’s investigative arm has not apprehended perpetrators of this heinous act.

“Security of teachers is paramount. Cases of homicide among members has increased, and they can’t sit on their laurels and watch things continue unabated,” he said.
