The TVET Principals’ Quarterly Meeting and Training officially kicked off this morning at Kiambu National Polytechnic, bringing together technical and vocational training leaders from across the country for two days of intensive discussions and capacity building.
Under the theme “Sustainable TVETs for National Growth and Skills Development,” the event, secheduled for November 3-4, 2025.
It intends to strengthen leadership, sustainability, and innovation across Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
The opening ceremony began early Monday with the arrival and registration of guests at 7.30am, followed by the National and East African Community Anthems, prayers, and welcome remarks from Mr Peter Kamau, Regional Director for TVET, and Dr David Mwangi, Chairman of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI). Joyce Mwale, Senior Assistant TVET Director, chaired the session.
Shortly after, Principal Secretary for TVET, Dr Esther T. Muoria (PhD, CBS), officially welcomed Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Julius Ogamba, EBS, who delivered the keynote address.
The CS commended the role of TVET institutions in national development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising and sustaining the sector through increased funding, modularised training, and green campus initiatives.
After the morning plenary and keynote speeches, participants took a health break at 10 am, followed by a series of technical sessions focused on implementing the Modularised Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework.

James Muchiri led a presentation on milestones achieved in CBET modularisation, followed by reports from Dr Meshack Opwora on TVET Quality Assurance and Mr Stanley Maindi on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Other agencies making presentations during the day include the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC), the TVET Authority (TVETA), the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), and the Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET). These sessions are expected to highlight the collaborative roles each agency plays in ensuring quality and harmonisation within the TVET sector.
The first day will conclude with an afternoon plenary session on Modularised CBET Implementation, during which principals will discuss challenges, share institutional experiences, and propose recommendations for scaling up competency-based training nationwide.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 4, the second day will centre on the theme of Sustainable TVETs. Proceedings will start at 8 am with arrivals and registration, followed by a presentation on mindset change by Dr Benard Isalambo, a guest speaker. Zipporah Messo will later lead a session on Income-Generating Activities (IGAs) for self-sustaining institutions.
The morning will also feature success stories from Rift Valley National Polytechnic, Nyeri National Polytechnic, and Chuka Technical Vocational College, highlighting innovation, partnerships, and student employability outcomes.
After a mid-morning break, Dr Joseph Kanyi will present on industrial linkages, focusing on strengthening collaborations between TVETs and the private sector.
Later, Anne Kamonjo will deliver a paper on the Greening of TVETs, underscoring the need for sustainable practices, energy conservation, and environmental awareness within training institutions.
The two-day event will close with a plenary session and the development of an action plan, during which participants will outline resolutions and policy directions for the next quarter.
According to the organisers, the quarterly meeting is designed not only as a review platform but also as a training and peer-learning forum, enabling TVET principals to exchange best practices and drive institutional excellence in line with national education reforms.
