When the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results were released on Thursday, celebrations erupted at Tala Township Primary and Junior School in Matungulu of Machakos County.

However, amid the jubilation, two names captured special attention, twin brothers Vidal Mungai Karo and Videl Ndung’u Karo, who both posted an impressive EE1 score of 68 points out of a possible 72.

The Grade Nine twins, who have studied side by side since early childhood, attribute their remarkable performance to discipline, teamwork, and constant motivation from one another.

Their healthy academic competition kept them focused throughout their junior school journey.

“We encouraged each other and worked together, especially when the pressure was high,” one of the twins said.

Their achievement places them among 38 candidates who attained EE1 at the school.

An additional 35 learners scored EE2, contributing to the institution’s strong overall performance. In total, 252 candidates sat for the examination.

School headteacher Benjamin Kiio lauded the results, noting that the class was the school’s first pioneer cohort under the new junior school curriculum.

“This being our first group, the results are very encouraging. We are proud of our learners and teachers for the hard work and commitment,”  Kiio said during an interview at his office.
