All TVET institutions have been told to register their national qualifications with the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) as stipulated by law.

Speaking during the workshop to raise awareness on the KNQF for new National Polytechnics held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at KALRO, Naivasha, the PS for the State Department for TVET Dr Esther Muoria said that the workshop serves as a platform for collectively envisioning and shaping the future of TVET in Kenya through enhanced industry engagement.

The government, in collaboration with stakeholders, has been instrumental in transformative reforms aimed at revitalizing the TVET sector.

These reforms, aligned with the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, stress the periodic review of TVET curricula to meet evolving job market needs.

The essential linkage between TVET institutions and industry is emphasized, facilitating a responsive and effective education and training system benefitting both individuals and the broader economy.

Recent initiatives, including the establishment of thirteen new National Polytechnics, underscore the commitment to the TVET sub-sector.

These institutions are mandated to develop and implement flexible, learner-centred, and industry-driven TVET curricula aligned with industry demands.

These ongoing reforms form the bedrock for a brighter future for our TVET sector and the nation at large.

By embracing these reforms, we infuse dynamism, relevance, and inclusivity, creating a skilled and adaptable workforce ready to tackle present and future technological challenges,” Muoria said.

The workshop provides an opportunity for the new National Polytechnics to critically review achievements, reflect on challenges, and appreciate their role in transforming youth through quality education and training.
