People from all walks of life joined hundreds of students from various TVETs in the South Rift at the Kericho Uhuru Gardens to celebrate 100 years of existence of TVETs in the country.
The highlight of the celebration was the reception of the Centenary Flame that has been going round the country in a relay to mark the 100 years.
According to KATTI Secretary General Shadrack Tonui, who is also the principal of the Kericho Township Technical and Vocational College, the aim of the celebrations is to reflect on the 100 years of existence of TVET in the country since 1924.
“IT is a time of reflecting on the existence, importance, relevance and future of technical training in the country and ways of exploring various approaches to position it to respond to the labour market and societal needs,” Tonui said.
The national celebrations, said the principal, kicked off early this month when President William Ruto launched the TVET flame at the Kabete National Polytechnic, which signified the core of technical studies, innovation and creativity.

Dubbed the Centenary Flame, it is a manifestation of the positive values associated with symbolism of fire in arousing and inspiring an emotional feeling, and thus creating the link between the ancient and the modern TIVET@100 years.
The principal said the flame will be carried for four months through all the 47 counties and finally relayed back to the host institution where it all started.
It will be carried by runners, as other modes of transportation are infused.
According to information availed, the flame will signify rebranded TVET and help to spread the message of hope and decent livelihood through vocational training.
During the ensuing events, students from the various TVETs showcase their skills in various competitions to exemplify the labour market preparedness, research and development initiatives, before being handed the flame for onward transmission in its journey round the country.
