The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has ushered in new leadership following the appointment of Professor Kellen Kathure Kiambati as the new Chairperson of the TVETA Board of Directors.
The official appointment was confirmed on October 29 when the Director General of the Authority, Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, formally handed over the appointment letter to Professor Kiambati during her visit to the Authority’s headquarters. The handover marked the beginning of her tenure as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board, a role she will serve for a four-year term.
Professor Kiambati’s appointment was officially gazetted on October 24, 2025, by the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education, Julius Ogamba. Her selection reflects the government’s continued efforts to strengthen governance and leadership within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector, which plays a vital role in equipping Kenyans with practical skills for the modern job market.
As Chairperson, Professor Kiambati will steer the TVETA Board in providing strategic direction and oversight to ensure quality, relevance and accessibility in the country’s TVET system. Her leadership is expected to enhance collaboration among stakeholders, promote institutional compliance, and support innovations that align technical training with emerging industry demands.

The Authority expressed confidence in her appointment, noting that her vast experience in academia, management and public service will be instrumental in driving TVETA’s strategic goals. “The Authority welcomes Professor Kiambati and looks forward to her leadership in advancing TVETA’s mandate and strengthening Kenya’s technical and vocational education and training sector,” read a statement from the Authority.
Professor Kiambati’s entry comes at a crucial time when Kenya is focusing on expanding technical training opportunities to bridge the skills gap, boost employability, and support industrial growth under the country’s national development agenda.
Under her guidance, the TVETA Board is expected to continue implementing reforms that ensure TVET institutions maintain high standards, foster industry partnerships and produce a competent workforce capable of meeting both local and global labor market needs.
Her appointment marks a new chapter for TVETA, signaling renewed commitment toward excellence and transformation in the technical education landscape of Kenya.
