TVET students showcase exceptional innovations

Students of Taveta Technical and Vocational Centre explain how there Hyroelectric Generators works during the TVETs Trade Fair held at Karisa Maitha Ground in Kilifi.

An array of innovations and inventions featuring mainly works were showcased at an exhibition that gathered over 30 technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Coast region. It was held at Godoma  Technical Trading Institute.

Some of the innovations included solar power generators, robotic machines, hydroelectric generators, wooden chair, and automated power control that caught the attention of spectators in the trade fair.

Developed by students from the institutes under the guidance of tutors, the innovations cut across various sectors, including agriculture, waste management and recycling, energy and water saving, food and beauty.

Education Minister Kilifi County Felkin Kaingu said that youths are gradually embracing vocational training colleges to gain technical skills. He thus asked the both leaders to do vigorous campaign to change the mindset of our youths, and move from village polytechnics to vocational colleges.

He also promised the Kilifi County will set aside funds to pay school for the youths who are joining TVET institutions, as they have done in secondary schools and other tertiary institutions.

Coast Director of TVET institutions Peter Mwangi said that they aim to empower students through training and market linkages so that they can showcase their talents and earn a living as well. He thus called upon the students to be more creative and come up with different ideas.

He also advised the young innovators to take advantage of the Youth Fund which will help them establish various projects.
