Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) national chairman David Mwangi have urged TVET principals to ensure that there is 90 per cent practical work and 10 per cent theory work in the training of students in their institutions.
Speaking during the capacity building workshop for principals, Directors, Academics, Registrars, and Examination Officers held at Pride Inn and Paradise Hotel in Mombasa County recently, Mwangi further encouraged principals to ensure that there is formative assessment and summative assessment of students in their training institutions to enhance effective learning.
“Ensure that you have strategic plans at your respective training institutions to guide you in your daily work and also utilized institutions funds for the intended purposes only,” he advised.
“You should ensure that you are transparent, accountable and honesty in your daily undertakings in a bid to win trust from the people you serve”, the principals were told.
KATTI, national chairperson, David Mwangi also revealed that delayed release of Capitation grants to the training institutions in the country has hampered the implementation of many development projects.

“Principals have already embraced CBET in their respective training institutions in the country”, he stated.
Additionally, they further resolved to continue to deliver quality technical training to the students in their respective training institutions in the country.
At the same time, the principals disclosed that they will work as a team to enhance technical education training in the country to industrialize it ready for job market.
During their capacity building Workshop, the principals were reminded of good leadership and good governance in the training institutions as key factors towards effective operations.
However, the chairperson disclosed that TVET principals in the country are ready to receive the Competency Based Curriculum students in their respective institutions.
Mwangi, however asked all technical education stakeholders in the country and Non- Governmental Organizations operating in the country to come forward and help equip the Technical Training Institutions with the necessary facilities in order to enhance technical education training levels in the country.
