TVET Principals urge government to allocate enough funds for efficient, effective operations

Principals of Technical, Vocational, Education and Training Institutions (TVET)  have urged the government to allocate enough funds to their institutions to enable them to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Speaking during the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) Annual Conference, held in Mombasa County recently, and led by the KATTI chairperson, David Mwangi, the principals said the government should increase their capitation and address the issue of the delayed release of capitation grants to their institutions.

“Many development projects in our training institutions in the country have stalled due to lack of funds, situation which has actually hindered the smooth operations in our training institutions”, the principals lamented.

They further said that they urgently need funds to pay their suppliers who supply different items to their training institutions.

The principals also decried the sorry state that TVETs are in, adding that the learning environment in the training institutions is not conducive at all due to lack of physical learning facilities; calling upon the government to direct adequate funds for infrastructural development to enhance

“The training institutions in the country actually need adequate modern infrastructure to cope with the ever increasing number of students”, they revealed.

The principals also urged the government to employ more technical education tutors in the country and deploy them to their institutions to cope with the ever increasing number of students.

“Our training institutions in the country still have old buildings which are currently in pathetic conditions and they urgently need funds for rehabilitations to enable lecturers and students stay under good environment”, disclosed the principals.

They assured the government that they will double their efforts towards work by ensuring that they offer quality technical education training to the students at their respective training institutions.
