TVET institutions urged to develop market-driven programmes

Principals of Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) have been tasked to create innovative and market-driven programmes which will guarantee the youth employment after graduation.

Speaking during a meeting with Principals of various centres of excellence, Uasin Gishu Chief Officer (CO) for Education and Vocational Training Marion Birgen encouraged the Principals to come up with programmes that will not only address unemployment among the youth but also promote sustainability.

“TVET institutions are very important institutions as they assist in reducing unemployment numbers. Let’s improve on the quality of teaching so the youth are trained on marketable skills,” she said.

Birgen said that marketable and attractive programmes enhance enrolment in the institutions.

“We intend to create partnerships with international organizations with the intent of improving Vocational Training Centres,” she added.

The Chief Officer urged the Principals to embrace the use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in designing their products so as to easily penetrate the market.

Also in attendance was Director for Vocational Training Steve Kemoi and Shadrack Morogo (Education).
