TVET drama festivals kick off in earnest

Excellent performances lit up the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETs) institutes and Polytechnics drama festivals kicked off yesterday at Kigari Teachers College in Embu county.

The festival themed ‘Promoting Moral Responsibility Through Theatre and Film’ was characterized by pomp and colour with students presenting their best dances and performances..

The participants turned up in their best stage crafts and costumes to pass on their message.

Siaya Institute of Technology made things work as they hit the stage to perform their play titled ‘In the thick of things’ which indicated how leaders use their positions to manipulate locals to achieve their selfish agendas.

Spectators were kept glued to the performers and they stroke every bit of the play in confidence.

Thika Technical Training Institute moved the audience with their choral verse, ‘Wafyosi’ that depicts how supermarket guards collude with buyers to steal items.

A Western region dance dubbed ‘Valumindi’ by Eldoret National Polytechnic which sensitized the community against stigmatizing convicts as they come out of prison with skills which they utilize by working for the community.

In the well-choreographed ‘Isukuti’ dance, the school brought forth how a community was attacked by bandits and after the bandits were arrested and taken to prison they later came out with skills that helped the same community.

Composed by Paul Kisal, the performance brought the venue to a stand-still as everyone struggled to catch a glimpse.

Mitunguu Technical Training Institute kept the audience mimicking their performance when they presented their Kiswahili choral verse to urge the youth not to lose themselves too much in social media.

Students and tutors present during the performance said it was well scripted.

Wilson Ndirangu who authored the choral verse said a lot of youth were addicted to the internet for all the wrong reasons.

He urged the government to come up with mechanisms on how the internet can be utilized to benefit the youth financially and socially.
