The Tufunzeni Teacher Awards 2025 have officially been launched, inviting nominations for educators

The Tufunzeni Teacher Awards 2025 have officially been launched, inviting nominations for educators who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to teaching and learning across Kenya.

The awards aim to spotlight teachers who go beyond classroom instruction to positively influence students, schools, and communities.

Organized by Tufunzeni, a professional development organization for educators, the awards recognize Teachers Service Commission (TSC)-registered teachers delivering the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), the 8-4-4 system, and instructors in TVET institutions.

For eligibility, teachers must be actively employed during 2024–2025 or within the past 12 months and have no record of professional misconduct.

The programme is open to teachers, school leaders, colleagues, parents, and students who wish to nominate educators who are making a difference.

The teachers are directed to present a 500-word narrative, a recommendation letter, and optional supporting evidence for nomination.  All submissions must be received by November 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM EAT.

According to the organisers, this year, 12 award categories will honor diverse contributions in education, ranging from Teacher of the Year, Rising Star, Innovation in Teaching, and Inclusive Educator, to Green Educator and Most Resilient Educator. The awards seek to recognize achievements in leadership, curriculum innovation, social inclusion, environmental stewardship, and mentorship.

From the nominations, 36 finalists — three per category — will be invited to a grand ceremony in Nairobi on December 13, 2025. One national winner per category will be announced, receiving additional recognition and awards, while all finalists will receive certificates.

Speaking on the initiative, Tufunzeni said the awards are intended to motivate teachers, improve professional standards, and encourage innovative teaching practices nationwide.

“Our goal is to celebrate teachers who make a real impact on learners’ lives while inspiring others in the profession,” the organizers said.

The awards also aim to foster awareness about teaching excellence across Kenya’s eight regions — Nairobi, Central, Coast, Eastern, North Eastern, Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Western — ensuring educators from all communities are acknowledged.

Nominations close on November 10, 2025, ahead of the December awards ceremony.
