The TSC Deputy Director of Staffing, Ms. Lilian Wachira has finally opted to proceed to the Coast as the new Regional Director after being transferred to the new station.
Education News has established that Wachira who was redeployed more than a week ago, officially cleared her desk at the TSC headquarters yesterday after some internal push and pull.
She takes over from Fredrick Ng’ang’a, who has been redeployed to the Commission’s headquarters in Nairobi.
Sources within the Commission say that Wachira had reportedly lobbied to remain in Nairobi but her efforts were apparently unsuccessful.
Wachira is a seasoned TSC insider, has previously served as the Regional Director for Western Region before being moved to the headquarters in 2023 by former CEO, Nancy Macharia.
The transfer comes at a time of intense jostling over the coveted TSC CEO job that became vacant after the exit of Macharia. The position is currently occupied by Ms. Evaleen Mitei in an acting capacity.
Wachira is said to have applied for the powerful post when it was advertised. Other officials internally lining up for the job include; Antonina Lentoijoni, the Director of Staffing; Cheptumo Ayabei, the Director of Finance, and Gabriel Mathenge, the Head of Operations at the Commission.

TSC had advertised the Secretary/CEO position last year, but the recruitment process was stalled following a court case filed by one Thomas Mosomi Oyugi against the Commission and other parties.
The case arose from a constitutional petition filed in May 2025, challenging the legality and fairness of the recruitment process to replace former CEO Macharia, who retired from the service.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Mombasa initially halted the recruitment process in May 2025 but later allowed the matter to proceed to a full hearing. A final ruling on the case is scheduled for January 29, 2026.
