The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred teacher Geoffrey Lelon to Lodwar Girls Secondary School in Turkana County, with effect from January 5, 2026.
In a letter dated January 2, 2026, and signed by Tola Jilo on behalf of the TSC Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Lelon was directed to report to his new station within 14 days from the effective date for assignment of duties.
The transfer follows a ruling by the Employment and Labour Relations Court, which ordered the TSC to immediately transfer Lelon out of the North Eastern region.
The court directive arose from a case filed in 2023 by the Kenya Teachers in Hardship and Arid Areas Welfare Association (KETHAWA), which challenged the TSC’s decision to repost 122 teachers back to North Eastern Kenya despite prevailing insecurity.
Lelon was among the teachers affected by the reposting. He had previously fled the region after witnessing the brutal killing of a colleague in Mandera, an incident that left him traumatised and fearing for his life. Since then, he had repeatedly appealed to the TSC to be transferred to a safer region.

Instead, the Commission under former CEO Nancy Macharia interdicted him on grounds of desertion and, following a disciplinary process, issued a warning before reposting him back to the North Eastern region.
As a result, Lelon has reportedly gone without a salary for more than two years, surviving on casual labour while staying at his rural home in Kericho County.
The prolonged case has taken a toll on affected teachers, with KETHAWA indicating that some have lost hope and suffered depression due to the lengthy legal process.
KETHAWA has continued to pursue the matter in court. Justice Byram Ongaya, who personally listened to Lelon’s account and reviewed submissions from both sides, ordered that Lelon be immediately transferred outside the North Eastern region and report to a new station as schools reopen.
The transfer to Lodwar Girls Secondary School marks compliance with the court order and brings relief to Lelon after years of uncertainty and hardship.
