The Government has been urged to officially confirm the employment status of teachers currently serving in acting capacities within Taita Taveta county, Kenya.

The Executive Secretary of the Taita Taveta County branch of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Lennox Mshila voiced his concerns in Wundanyi town, emphasizing that many teachers in the region are functioning in temporary roles, causing apprehension for both the union and the affected educators.

Mshila disclosed that these teachers had been appointed to act in their roles, rather than being formally confirmed.

He stressed the necessity for these appointments to be solidified to enhance their effectiveness in their respective positions.

Moreover, Mshila advocated for the consideration of teachers with higher qualifications, such as diplomas and degrees, for promotions, ensuring they can fulfill their daily duties with dedication.

He urged primary and secondary school administrators to intensify their efforts to achieve improved results in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Mshila extended his advice to students, emphasizing the importance of maintaining discipline both in school and at home, while also discouraging any form of school unrest or property destruction.

“Discipline is the primary factor for success in their final national examinations. This collective effort, he believes, will ensure the success of educational programs within the county,” he underscored.
