Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nancy Macharia has revealed that his commission will be rewarding all teachers who will record improved performance and those who went beyond their call of duty to deliver credible examinations.
Speaking today during the release of 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) at the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters, Dr. Macharia stated that teachers will be recognized once they receive the list from KNEC revealing that those who go beyond the call of duty in order to deliver credible examination will not be punished.
“The TSC will reward all teachers who perform exemplary well in their duties especially in recording improved performances in national examinations which include KCPE and once we get the list we shall reward such teachers including those who have gone beyond their call of duty to deliver credible examinations,” said Dr. Macharia.
She added that “I can assure the country that as a commission, we have no intention of punishing any teacher who goes beyond the level of duty to help our leaners. Some Centre mangers for example wake up very early in the morning to ensure that they are at the containers on time to pick up scripts and later return the parcels to the container each day.”
Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination, Dr. Macharia stated that all teachers in the country will now receive the vaccine irrespective of their age revealing that a total of 92,246 teachers have taken the jab currently.
“Today, the President has allowed us to ensure that all teachers will be allowed to take the COVID-19 vaccine irrespective of their age. We’re appealing to all teachers therefore to ensure that they get the jab even as we reopen the schools,” said Dr. Macharia.
The TSC CEO further revealed that 15 primary teachers, 3 deputy head teachers and 8 head teachers had lost their lives due to coronavirus pandemic, adding that the medical health insurance providers had hence been directed to cover all teachers against COVID-19 related ailments and they complied.
According to Dr. Macharia, a total there were 28,467 Centre managers; 28,711 supervisors; 72, 360 invigilators, and 4,756 examiners who were involved in the 2020 KCPE examination.
