The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is interested in raising the professional profile of teachers countrywide through various schemes.
The Senior Deputy Director in Charge of Quality Assurance and Standards at TSC Gabriel Mathenge said the commission has introduced various trainings to teachers which will make them be respected in their field.
The official told teachers to promote their professional associations and adhere to their rules and regulations which will make them be respected in the society.
Mathenge said this during an Open Day meeting organized by the commission at the Kericho Teachers College (KTTC) where he urged teachers to strive to understand and work closely with their employer.
“This open day meeting is aimed at making you understand your employer in terms of the expectations from you and for you also to get to understand more how TSC operates”, he said.
On teachers getting more degrees, the official said the TSC was still studying why despite more teachers gaining higher qualifications there was still a decline in the quality of education countrywide.
He said the Teacher Performance appraisal and development (TPAD) had strengthened supervision and continuous monitoring of teachers observing , “since its introduction the level of absenteeism had drastically gone down.”
