Kenya National Union of Teachers Wareng branch executive Thomas Yego has urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to chip in and help in financing Teacher Professional Development (TPD) modules.
Speaking to the press, Yego said the TPD model is expensive and teachers cannot manage to pay for it since most of them get low salaries.
His sentiments come after the teachers’ employer introduced refresher courses for teachers. The teachers are meant to retrain for a period of 30 years and bear the cost of their retraining.
“TPD is a good idea which will help teachers improve their skills. We however request TSC to chip in and finance this programme in a way,’’said the KNUT official.
He argued that the duration of the study should be reduced and that more colleges should be allowed to offer the refresher courses since there are so many teachers.
He added that the union fully supports CBC but that stakeholders must sit down and solve some issues concerning it.
“Stakeholders should sit down and amicably sort out issues concerning CBC,” said Yego.
