TSC shakes up Kakamega County schools with 15 principal transfers

TSC Kakamega County Director Wilson K. Koros oversees a reshuffle of 15 secondary school principals, aiming to boost performance and strengthen management ahead of the next term.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred 15 principals across Kakamega County in a major leadership reshuffle aimed at boosting performance and strengthening management in public secondary schools.

The changes, captured in the official “Handing/Taking Over Report for Principals dated  August 2025” and signed by County Director Wilson K. Koros, will be effected between August 14 and August 22, 2025. They involve both intra-county moves and appointments from other regions, including Migori, Kisii, and Trans Nzoia.

Among the notable transfers, former Deputy Principal of Kakamega High School, Ramadhan Issa, now heads Shirugu Secondary in Kakamega North, replacing Wandera Isaac.

Kembu Rosemary, from Ndwa Girls Secondary in Migori, takes over St. John Museno Secondary from Mulunda Damaris, who has been reassigned to St Agnes Museno Secondary in Kakamega East. Onyango Duncan, previously at Kenyinya Teachers Training College in Kisii, becomes principal of Shiregi TTC in Kakamega South.

Other changes include the appointment of Moses Moyi to Malava Boys Secondary, replacing Alvin Luvaso, who moves to Bungoma, and the posting of Omutiti Peter to Shiongo Secondary in Chevaywa.

Lubinu Boys Secondary, Musanda Secondary, and St. Peter’s Moi’s Bridge Secondary are also among the affected schools.

While the report records the dates of each handover, the “Confirm Submission of Entry Reports” section remains blank, indicating some formal confirmations are still pending. Education officials say the process is ongoing.

Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the reshuffle will inject new energy into the schools. “Leadership rotation brings in fresh ideas and perspectives,” said one senior TSC official. “It also ensures that principals gain experience in diverse environments, which is crucial for professional growth.”

However, education analysts caution that the changes could temporarily disrupt school operations, particularly where outgoing principals had long-term strategic plans in place.

They note that smooth transitions will be key to maintaining stability in academic and co-curricular programs.

The Kakamega transfers are part of a broader TSC policy to ensure equitable distribution of leadership talent across the country’s public schools. The commission has maintained that such moves are necessary to improve accountability and raise education standards.

For students and parents, the coming term will be the first real test of whether the new appointments deliver the expected results.
