The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a zonal-level training programme for Heads of Institutions (HOIs) to strengthen data validation and capture in the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS).

In an internal memo dated February 6, 2026, the TSC said that it “has planned a zonal-level training for Heads of Institutions (HOIs) on TMIS data validation, capture & updating, to be carried out in your respective Counties between February 23 and March 3, 2026.”

The training will target selected primary, junior, and senior schools and will be conducted in small groups of five to ten HOIs at selected host institutions.

According to the memo, “Each session will be followed by practical validation of TMIS data at the hosting Institution,” ensuring that participants apply the skills acquired during the exercise.

The Commission further indicated that an entry meeting will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 8.30 am, at the County Directors’ offices, to coordinate the exercise.

The meeting will involve officers conducting the training, County Directors, and three Sub-County Directors, preferably from sub-counties where HOIs require enhanced support.

County Directors have been mandated to facilitate the process, including inviting the three Sub-County Directors for the entry meeting.

They will also inform identified HOIs of the activity and compile a consolidated list of challenges encountered in TMIS data capture, updating, and validation.

TSC highlighted the initiative’s importance, noting that “The training aims to enhance data accuracy, completeness and consistency in TMIS, which is critical for informed teacher management decisions and effective service delivery.”

The Commission believes that strengthening TMIS capacity at the institutional level will improve decision-making on staffing, deployment, and other teacher management functions across the affected counties, which include Bungoma, Kitui, Kakamega, Machakos, Kisii, Nakuru, Meru, Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya.

Director of Staffing Antonina Lentoijoni signed the memo and called for collaboration, stating, “Your cooperation and facilitation of this exercise will be highly appreciated.”

The TMIS platform plays a central role in teacher data management, and the Commission views this targeted training as part of ongoing reforms to improve accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the education sector.
