The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has rolled out a programme to replace teachers who have left the service.

This is according to the TSC Chairperson Dr Jamleck Muturi, who said there are open vacancies available to replace teachers who left through natural attrition.

Addressing the press in Tambach Teachers Training College in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Muturi said the government is going to consider areas that have shortage during the time of recruiting and deployment of teachers.

He noted that the government was working to increase the number of teachers in schools so as to improve the quality of learning in all government institutions.

“Nationally we have a deficit of about 100,000 teachers, though the government is giving us the opportunity to recruit 5,000 teachers every year,” he said.

While noting that all stakeholders play a key role in ensuring that learners get good quality education, the TSC boss noted that the commission’s desire was to create a conducive environment for learners and teachers.

He said at the moment they were currently recruiting teachers across the country, encouraging those who had graduated to apply for the vacancies.
