TSC releases schedule for retooling Grade 7 JSS teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will begin retooling teachers handling the Grade 7 class in Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA) from October 2 to 13, 2023.

The model of training will be smart cascade and it will involve the training of Master Trainers who will then train the Trainers of Trainees and thereafter offer professional support during the teachers’ face to face training.

The dates for the face to face training are as follows;

From October 2 to 4, Master Trainers (regular and SNE) will be trained at KISE where participants will be drawn from TSC, KICD, KNEC, KEMI, CEMASTEA, MoE, KISE and TTCs.

Trainers of Trainees (TOTs), both regular and SNE, will be trained from October 6 to 7 at TTCs and County select venues where participants will be drawn from CSOs, Teacher Educators from TTCs, and MoE QAS and TSC SCDs

From October 9 to 13, there will be retooling of teachers clustered per subject at TTCs and County select venues where participants will be Teachers of Languages, Science, Mathematics, Humanities and Technical subjects.

The teacher capacity development will be conducted as follows;

  1. The Master Trainers will train the Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) who are Curriculum Support Officers, Teachers Educators (Tutors), TSC sub county Directors and MoE Quality Assurance Officers for 2 days.
  2. The TOTs will train teachers face to face for 5 days.
  3. The Master Trainers will offer professional support during teacher training.
  4. The exercise will be residential for ASAL ( Mandera, Lamu, Wajir, Garissa, Tanariver, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana, Marsabit and West Pokot) and SNE but Non-residential for non-ASAL.
  5. The venues will be TTCs and or selected venues in the County.
