Online meetings conducted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for its field officers have been deemed insufficient to meet the required threshold and have consistently failed to achieve their intended purposes.
Field officers from various regions have come together to urge the Commission to reconsider its approach to conducting meetings.
The officers’ cries came to the fore on July 24, 2025, after the Commission, through the Directorate of Teacher Professional Management, organised a capacity-building session for its field officers on professional support, school audit, and quality improvement.

The workshop aimed to sensitise field officers on the purpose and processes of professional support, and update them on the collaborative role of field officers in reviewing financial statements and reports from the Ministry of Education, in line with international public sector accounting standards.
The officers said that the commission should always facilitate them with data bundles and also bear in mind network deficiencies across various regions they serve.
“How surely are we invited to an online meeting without providing us with data bundles to ensure timely and seamless connectivity to such meetings?” wondered if One John, a field officer from the Eastern region.
The officers further blamed the background noise that has always marked such online meetings, which eventually makes the engagement look like a waste of time.”It has always been hard to follow up with Tsc’s online meetings as they are signatured by noise and other background activities,” noted Abdi.
He also implored the Commission to reconsider having such meetings in a face-to-face mode.
